Most Abundant Intermediate

Class 7 describes the simplification of mechanistic rate expressions when one of the intermediates is present in much greater concentration that all others.

Learning Outcomes

After completing Class 7 you should…

  • Know
    • the definition of a most abundant intermediate
    • the inequality that applies to most abundant intermediates
  • Understand
    • Some mechanisms do not include a most abundant intermediate
  • Be able to
    • identify terms in a mechanistic rate expression that can be eliminated when there is a most abundant intermediate and simplify the mechanistic rate expression accordingly

Prepare

  • Read Sections 4.6 and 4.7 and Example 4.8.6 from Chapter 4 of REB, The Book
  • Watch the Class 7 Preparation Video
